We call our blog ‘Alignment’ ultimately because we want you to align yourselves with God as you prepare to join us at SYC 2017 next week. We want the best for you out of a week like SYC. We are believing that you will have a life changing encounter with Jesus, one that leaves you full to the brim of his love, mercy and grace – so that you are at the point of overflow!
That’s my prayer for all of you over the next couple of weeks, but here is my prayer for you individually – that you become aligned with God’s plan and purpose for your life. We are all unique, each of us with different interests, looks, families, preferences – and we all have a unique calling on our lives.
King David, who lived approx. 3000 years ago, is a great example of someone who found his unique calling. He also had the pressure of others trying to put the wrong calling on his life. In 1 Samuel 17, David is given the opportunity to come out and fight against Goliath – the giant that no one could defeat. King Saul dresses him up in his very own armour – the finest armour in the land. But to wear King Saul’s shiny armour was not David’s calling. Not only did it not fit, but it was also far too heavy for him.
David was confident though that God had a calling upon his life, and this calling was to go out and defeat the giant, but only with his sling shot and a few smooth stones – his confidence was in God, not Saul’s armour.
My prayer is that over the next couple of weeks you would hear very clearly what God’s calling is for your life. Don’t be distracted by someone else’s calling, it’s easy to compare and desire someone else’s shiny armour – but it won’t fit you, because God has the perfect fit for you!
The best way for you to find the calling God has for your life, is to align yourself to Him. Get into His word, pray, worship, get wise and godly people around you, keep your heart soft and stay teachable. We are going to have so much fun together at SYC, we will laugh and maybe even shed a few tears. There’s going to be some great preaching, passionate times of worship, and lots of food to eat to name just a few things. I’m believing that amongst all of that, you will become aligned to God’s plan and purpose for your life!
Can’t wait to see you all!
