4 days to go… Battle For Victory

I’m extremely excited about the theme for SYC this year, ‘VICTORY’. Mainly because if I’m honest, growing up I didn’t really hear the word much! Let’s be real, I was never really the fastest at school. In fact I can remember very clearly being lapped in a 800m race on sports day in year 8. I was never good enough at video games, even when playing against my little brother, who’s blind and has no arms. In most aspects of the word I’m a pretty average kind of guy; never really winning much. So when I hear that we’re gonna spend a week at SYC talking about, I’m buzzing! (My brother isn’t really blind with no arms, but I’m bad enough that he could still beat me if he was.)

1 John 5:4 says:

“For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith”.

This verse puts people like me on cloud 9. Regardless of other things happening in or to me, I have victory. It’s a big victory.

God tells us here that putting our faith in him is a solid way to build our lives. So strong that the world can not change who we are now that we have faith. We have been born again and nothing can undo that! This is the biggest victory we will ever hope to experience because this sets the course for your whole life and even your eternity. God loving us and us loving God.

However, with every victory, comes a battle. God in his goodness protects and guards our faith until the very end. He doesn’t lose focus or make mistakes, he holds our faith so tightly that nothing can over come it. He makes sure that every soldier on his team is equipped and ready for the battle they face.

When God saves us, he gives all of us an armour that he promises will protect our faith in every situation that comes our way, as long as we wear it.

Ephesians 6:10-18 will give you an incredible image of how God protects us with the different parts of the armour he gives us. Have a read of this wonderful passage but for now I’ll finish with verse 10:

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”

Be strong, wear your armour and enjoy knowing that you are already victorious!
