Here are a list of frequently asked questions for youth groups, leaders and staff:

Youth Groups

Where is SYC 2017 held?

SYC 2017 is held at Myerscough College, Bilsborrow. Please visit our contact page for the address and directions.

When is SYC 2017 taking place?

The dates for SYC 2017 are Sunday 20th – Friday 25th August 2017.

When can we arrive?

Registration for SYC 2017 opens at 13:00, you will not be able to access the site before this time. There will be an afternoon meeting at 15:00 and the evening meal is at 17:30.

When do we leave?

All delegates are required to be off site by 14:00 on Friday 25th August.

What happens on the creative collective day?

Our Creative Collective Day is an opportunity to explore the different giftings that God has given to each of us. This year we will have 5 different workshops around the art of rap, portrait art, preaching 101, worship leading and dance. During the day, we also hold our annual Wacky Races competition, and we invite in a music artist for an evening gig, this year we have Faith Child with us. The day is topped off with a late-night worship session which is always a great way to finish.

What is there for leaders to do?

The week begins with a leaders meeting at 16:00 on the Sunday. Monday to Thursday there are morning seminars with invited speakers. On Wednesday evening we will have our annual leaders get together, a chance to network as we share a meal and meet new friends. In addition to this leaders get to attend all sports activities and evening meetings with their young people.

Can People Visit SYC For The Day?

We welcome day visitors – click here for information on times and prices. We are unable to provide meals for visitors

What meals are provided?

The price includes three meals a day; breakfast, lunch and dinner. There will also be a tuck shop and cafe area where you can buy further refreshments.

Where do leaders sleep?

Youth leaders will be accommodated in rooms adjacent to their groups accommodation.

How do we get to SYC?

Delegates are responsible for their own travel arrangements.

Can we bring pets?

No. Even the ‘early bird’ isn’t allowed at SYC.

What shall I bring?

Here is our suggested kit list:

  • All bedding is provided by Myerscough College
  • Clothing for a week! (include some warmer clothing – we don’t know what the weather will be like!)
  • Trainers and sports clothes (there will be a full sports programme running throughout the week, please bring white soled trainers for use in the sports hall)
  • Towels
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste and all other toiletries
  • Suncream
  • A Bible, we will provide you with a notepad and pen (really important you remember this!)
  • Any medication you may need
  • Spending money (there will be a tuck shop on site and also the opportunity to give towards Project Moon)
  • Towels & Socks for Project Moon
  • Fancy dress costume for Wednesday night – dress up as a character that starts with either an ‘S’ ‘Y’ or ‘C’.
  • Any valuable items that you choose to bring to SYC are your sole responsibility

STAFF

When should staff arrive?

All staff are required to be at SYC 2017 by 10:30, at this point you will be allocated your room. There will be a staff meeting at 11:00 and the evening meal is at 17:00.

When do we leave?

All staff will be required to ensure the site is left clean and cleared before leaving at 17:00 on Friday 25th August.

How do I apply to be on staff?

You must be 18 and over to apply for Staff at SYC. Simply complete the staff application form on our staff page and return it to the SYC HQ, at this point your application will be considered. You will receive an email confirming whether or not your application is successful.

How do I pay?

If your application is succesful we will then contact you to request the £30 staff fee.

Will I need a DBS check?

All staff must have a valid DBS check in place, which is less than 12 months old. SYC can complete this on your behalf at a cost of £10.

What time are staff meals?

What will my role be?

There are various roles for staff at SYC; sports, general, media, tech, logistics and first aid. If you are succesful in your application you will be assigned a role and given further details.

How do we get to SYC?

There is an on-site staff accommodation block.

Can we bring children?

Due to the change of venue for SYC 2017 staff places will be limited, because of this it may not be possible to accommodate staff members’ children aged 10 and under.
